Over the summer, the Sierra Nevada Olympic and Winter Sports Museum completed an environmental impact report assessing potential impacts and mitigation measures associated with the construction and operation of the museum within the county park at the entrance to Olympic Valley. . Co-applicant Placer County will lead the public review period, which is expected to conclude by spring 2024. The county will manage the park’s operations, maintenance, and post-construction activities.

Located on the upper floor of Tahoe City’s Boatworks Mall, the temporary museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibits include memorabilia from Olympic and Sierra ski history, as well as stories about past, present and future area athletes and the rich history of the sport in the Sierra Nevada.

SNOW’s Collections and Archives team is organizing artifacts from more than a century of California ski history in preparation for the upcoming museum. This inventory project is being conducted in collaboration with Sacramento State students and interested community volunteers.
