Shawn Michaels detailed the policies NXT has in place to maintain a safe working environment.
WWE’s work environment has come under the spotlight following horrific allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking against Vince McMahon by a former employee. Triple H chose to “focus on the positives” rather than directly answering questions about the allegations, while Shawn Michaels was more open on the subject of safety measures.
At a press conference prior to NXT Vengeance Day, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp Michaels asked what policies will be put in place going forward to protect wrestlers. HBK made it clear that he has no “corporate ties” and said he does his best to foster a safe and supportive atmosphere. He also noted that related policies will be updated in 2022.
“It’s an incredibly sad situation. As everyone knows, I have very little to do regarding my ongoing company work, and I’m happy to do so. We try to focus on the men and women who come through these doors, and we do.
“I think we have a safe and supportive atmosphere here. I know that some of those regulations and so on have been re-installed and upgraded in 2022. And one of the things I do is that it’s really important to support our talent and provide them with a safe working environment. We absolutely do that. I’d like to think we’re doing it, but look, I’m very happy to be able to say that I think we’re constantly working on that and we’re doing a really great job here.”
The Hall of Famer was later asked: john alba If only we had talked to our talent about what more we could do to promote a safe working environment. Michaels explained that he takes the situation in NXT very seriously and is working to encourage openness from talent so that they feel confident asking questions they may be shying away from.
“Well, look, we’re obviously all aware of the situation and we understand it. Like I said, this is an incredibly sad situation. You can say it’s terrible, but we always, and we’ve told you that in the past, we take it very seriously.
“Regardless of what’s going on, this is hard work, so I take all the young people who come here incredibly seriously. Leave your home and come here and pursue your dreams. We take this very seriously, and we understand that the young men and women who come through our doors are sensitive.
“So we absolutely encourage openness and we say again, tell everyone the truth and let us know how we can help. It’s something that’s been here for a long time. And we continue to do our best to improve it because it is. One of the most important things to me is to be able to ask the questions that you’re afraid to ask. . We certainly empower them to do that and give them the opportunity to do that.
“Right now, I feel the same way as you guys. Coming off Royal Rumble weekend and even leading up to Vengeance Day, I’m not trying to spin too much, but I think the talent in WWE and NXT is going to be great in the future.” I think we’re very excited about that.” Look, we know that we are as well, and we want to take advantage of that in our day of revenge.” As I said, it’s a tough situation, but I want to tell you from a talent perspective that we feel like the windows of heaven have opened and we’re ready to move forward. ”
“I’d like to think we’re doing a great job here” – Shawn Michaels on NXT working environment
The last question on this matter is Stephanie Hypes of BodySlam.netI asked if there was anyone the talent could feel comfortable talking to about any problems they might have.
“We’re making sure we have all of these policies in place. As I said, we upgraded them in 2022. I’m sure they’ll continue to look at improving them going forward. There’s no question about it, but we definitely do. We have a lot of people on our medical team for outreach outside of the Performance Center.
“We look at the talent, we look at the head writers, we look at the coaches, and we understand that just like them, we can get them to tell the truth and express what’s going on. But , you know, they may not feel comfortable doing that, so we offer assistance outside of here as well and are completely objective and not affiliated with WWE or NXT. We have people that we can work with to guide them into the environment. That respect.
“Again, we want to make sure we’re all focused on what we’re doing and not struggle going forward. Especially here. . Again, we’re doing a great job here and I think you’re seeing that on a regular basis.”
