NMDC closes mobile environment lab in Chhattisgarh

NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer, on October 27 launched a mobile environmental laboratory for the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) from its headquarters in Hyderabad.

The first-of-its-kind laboratory will enable real-time monitoring of ambient air quality in Chhattisgarh’s industrial clusters, NMDC said. With a continuous ambient air quality monitoring station onboard the vehicle and six portable CAAQMS, the vehicle is set to constantly monitor pollution and respond immediately to complaints.

The state-of-the-art vehicle, which will be handed over to CECB in Raipur on November 1, is equipped with a water and wastewater quality analysis system. The facility will bring in water management and also record the quality of ambient noise from industrial areas in Chhattisgarh, NMDC said in a release on vehicle alerts by CMD (additional charges) (Commercial Officer ) Amitava Mukherjee Director, V. Suresh Director (Technical) Vinay Kumar and CVO B. Vishwanath.

NMDC is a major mining company in the Bailadila region of Chhattisgarh. “We are happy to contribute to improving the environmental health of Chhattisgarh. The first and most important step in developing a sustainable course of action is to document and monitor the current situation.” Mr Mukherjee said. Procured through the GeM portal, the environmental lab is built on a Primover Bharat Benz vehicle and is equipped with scientific equipment such as CAAQMS, spectrophotometer, drone, BOD measurement system, portable water analysis lab, autoclave, and hot air oven.
