Climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental pollution are having an increasingly visible impact on our daily lives. The ecological crisis is forcing us to redefine our relationship with the world.

The challenges are diverse and require an interdisciplinary approach. To take a more sustainable path and embrace a common future, we must learn to live “differently”. As the French anthropologist and sociologist Bruno Latour wrote 15 years ago, “The environmental crisis is forcing us to change the way we live our lives, down to the smallest detail, from the fibers of our clothes to the exhaust pipes and windows of our cars. We are under pressure to reinvent every aspect of style in our homes…a revolution in prudence and care…”

These are unprecedented challenges, but each of us can make a contribution. Sino-French Environment Month 2023 focuses on “different ways of living” and aims to explore possibilities to rebuild our lifestyles together with the people.

On October 14th, the 10th Sino-French Environment Month was officially opened at Shutter Life in Haizhu Lake Park. Following the welcome address by Mr. Chen Huixuan, General Manager of Shuter Life, Mr. Benjamin MARTINEZ, Consul General of France in Guangzhou, gave a speech.

“As we learn more about environmental protection, we find that many easy-to-implement actions can effectively reduce the negative impact on the environment. For example, reducing food waste, minimizing the use of single-use products, practices of rational consumption, recycling, reducing the use of air conditioners, reducing the negative impact on the environment, etc. Green transportation – as long as we maintain an environmentally conscious mindset, we can be “different” in our daily lives. ‘Lifestyle’ is actually not a difficult choice.”
