Environmental pollution has become a widespread concern in tourist destinations in the Kurdistan Region.

Erbil (Kurdistan 24) – Lake Dukan attracts many tourists every year. However, there is no end to the problem of environmental pollution caused by some tourists.

Dukan Lake is a popular tourist destination and is visited by many tourists every year. However, the actions of some tourists have resulted in environmental pollution in the area, including water from Dukan Dam. This sparked a series of protests.

Tourist Diller Mahf told Kurdistan24: “I’ve lived abroad for many years. In some countries, when someone throws something on the street, the locals confront them and say, ‘You littered. Please help us protect our environment. ” It is important not to litter or spread trash around. ”

Protecting the environment is not the sole responsibility of governments and other institutions. It is also an important duty of citizens. However, some people argue that maintaining a clean environment is a civilized duty, and that those who pollute the environment should also be held accountable.

Keeping the environment clean is important, but protecting the environment of tourist destinations is even more important. Because these areas, like all other tourist destinations, serve the needs of the population.

Despite obstacles such as the war against ISIS and the coronavirus pandemic, the Kurdistan Region’s tourism industry has expanded, reaching 6 million tourists in 2022. In 2023, 7 million tourists were recorded, an increase of 16% compared to the previous year.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has emphasized the importance of tourism as an alternative to diversifying dependence on hydrocarbon revenues as part of the agenda of the Ninth Cabinet. The plan includes an eight-year strategy to attract 20 million tourists a year.
