This state-of-the-art facility, developed in cooperation with Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), has passed the national acceptance review and started operation in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province.

SESRI is China’s first large-scale scientific facility dedicated to aerospace research, China Central Television reported. Spanning an area equivalent to approximately 50 soccer fields, the facility’s versatile design allows environmental conditions to be customized to meet specific scientific and engineering requirements.

This adaptability makes it easy to repeat experiments without time and space constraints, paving the way for safer and more efficient experimental conditions and research methodologies.

Li Liyi, deputy commander-in-chief of the project and director of HIT’s Institute of Space and Environmental Materials Science, emphasized the importance of this facility. “This means that many experiments that previously required space travel can now be performed on the ground,” Lee said.
